Fully modular 1 kW + 1 kW for maximum reliability and flexibility. For the maximum power of 2kW both amplifiers run simultaneously, if you want to service or clean one of the amplifiers, the remaining one will stay on air keeping the listeners and advertisers happy using half power. This modular 2kW transmitter comes complete with exciter, Wilkinson splitter and high powered combiner. Standard 19 inch heavy steel black powered coated enclosures built to last!!!.

Which Version Do You Need?

These are the two main versions of this transmitter:

These two versions cover 90% of all customer requirements. Other custom versions are available such as stereo only, no RDS, no processing etc. which we can also make if that's what you require.

Stereo, RDS and Audio Processing Version

If you are not sure which version you want, then you definitely need this version. It is perfect for beginners because it adjusts the audio levels automatically and keeps the 2000 watt transmitter within the legal specifications required by the state regulator.

This version is also ideal for professionals who just don't need the all the hassle. This is because it includes everything in one enclosure. The audio processing keeps the audio level 'LOUD', but not too loud whereby it causes over deviation and contravenes your permit. The trick is to get the sound as loud as possible so you can compete with the other stations on the dial, but at the same time keeping your signal legal. This is a tricky balance to maintain, but this version in stereo with our internal audio processers does exactly this.

In addition, this version INCLUDES RDS. This allows everybody to see your station name and more scrolling across the car radio display.

The RDS is not just ordinary RDS, it is fully programmable dynamic RDS. This means the transmitter can be connected to a PC by a USB cable. The transmitters RDS circuit will pick the Artist and Song name from any folder on the PC disk drive. This folder is easy to set up in the DJ playout software, like Zara Studio etc. You can find more information about this in the Aareff RDS User Manual.

This is for expert users who want to provide the MPX signal from an external source.

The PLL is slow locking, this is good as it maintains low frequency performance down to just a few Hertz. This low frequency response is heaven for processors.

The baseband MPX audio input has virtually no tilt whatsoever on the low bass frequencies making it perfect for use with multiband processors such as Orban, Invonics, Stereo Tool, Omnia etc. Check the image of the test we made in MpxTool.

Antennas

The transmitter will work with any 50 ohm antenna rated at 2000W or higher. The following antennas when used with this 2kW transmitter will radiate (EIRP) the approximate power shown.

    • Vertical 5/8 Wave 5kW EIRP
    • Circular Dipole up to 10kW EIRP
    • Folded Dipole up to 25kW EIRP

Our 25kW EIRP system includes this transmitter packaged in with coaxial cable and a suitable antenna system. These full systems are engineered to comply with the EU standards and regulations for licensed broadcasting and most other countries regulations in the world.

Temperature Protection

The 2kW transmitter package uses two large amplifiers enclosures which spread the waste heat over a larger area. Spreading the heat this way improves long term reliability over compact type models simply because there are no concentrated hot spots which always lead to faster failure. This generally doubles the lifetime reliability over the equivalent compact type model. In addition to this there is active temperature monitoring which in worse case scenario will reduce the power automatically to protect the unit if the ambient temperature is extreme at over +40C.

VSWR Protection

The final output section of the 2kW transmitter is two RF amplifiers using two BLF188XR, the XR means 'eXtremely Rugged' These LDMOS RF power transistors are designed for the most challenging engineering environments and withstand severe load mismatches at VSWRs greater than 65:1 at 5 dB of compression. Two BLF188XR's can actually provide a combined CW output of 3200 W whilst still passing extreme ruggedness testing. For ultra reliability we just keep the output at 2kW total maximum. It can be set at lower power levels, right down to 20W if required.

Construction

The complete assembly is made up of two 3U enclosures and one 2U enclosure in strong 16-gauge steel, powder coated and baked in satin black. This is military grade strength, not flimsy thin paneling that eastern countries make. The whole thing tough with a durable surface that will never rust and will shine for years. The front panels are 19 inches so they will fit with ease into a standard rack.

Configuring Power, Dev. and Freq.

This transmitter is fully adjustable by a competent engineer to operate from 87.5 to 108 MHz, in 100 KHz steps, pre-emphasis of 50 or 75uS and adjustable power from 2 to 2000W. Like all our transmitters, this is easily done by reconfiguring the dip switches on the under side panel. When we test this we have to set it to some frequency, we prefer it to be the one you choose, so please let us know your frequency.

Compliance

The stereo version with audio processing and limiting meets all the regulatory standards required out of the box and pre configured. In fact if you send us a copy of your permit and it's conditions, we will set it up exactly to the specification.
