Which Version Do You Need?

Selecting the Optimal Version for Your Broadcast Requirements.

Choosing the correct version of your FM Transmitter is crucial for operational efficiency and meeting your specific broadcast goals. We offer professionally engineered systems that cover 90% of customer requirements right out of the box, ensuring you get the exact functionality needed for your station.

These are the two primary, professional versions of our FM Transmitters:

Transmitter Version Ideal Application
◼ Stereo with RDS and Audio Processing Version Any station prioritizing high audio quality, professional stereo separation, and dynamic Radio Data System (RDS) functionality for displaying station name, song titles, or slogans. This is the most feature-rich option for modern, professional broadcasting.
◼ MPX Version Experienced engineers who handle external audio processing and stereo encoding outside the transmitter. This version accepts a pre-processed and encoded composite signal (MPX) for direct modulation, offering maximum control to the audio chain expert.

Need Customization?

We understand that custom requirements exist. If you need alternative versions (e.g., stereo only, no RDS, no processing), we can accommodate these requests to match your specific technical setup.

You will find detailed descriptions of both the Stereo/RDS and MPX versions, including how they work, technical specifications, and the final price INCLUDING delivery to your country, in the following sections.

New to Broadcasting? The Essential Guide to FM Radio Transmitters

Taking your first steps in FM broadcasting can feel overwhelming. This comprehensive Aareff guide, developed by industry experts, offers clear guidance on choosing the ideal equipment, understanding technical requirements, and planning for sustainable growth.

Planning Phase Expert Guidance & Technical Requirements
1. Define Your Goal
Broadcast Area Purpose
Before comparing models, clearly define your station's core purpose:

Local/Campus: Schools, hospitals, or university campuses (Requires Low Power).
Community: Small towns or city neighborhoods (Requires Medium Power).
Regional/National: Major regional or full national networks (Requires High Power).
2. Power & EIRP
Coverage Expectations
Effective Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP) measures actual coverage:

Low EIRP (0.1–30 W): Covers 1 to 12 km range.
Medium EIRP (50–500 W): Urban-level coverage (16 to 49 km).
High EIRP (1 kW–100 kW): Regional to national reach (up to 195 km).

Important Note: Antenna quality, tower height, and terrain are just as decisive as transmitter power in maximizing your reach.
3. Legal Regulations
Compliance & Licensing
Understanding your country's regulations is non-negotiable to protect your investment:

• Know your legal signal reach and required broadcast licenses.
• Ensure you only purchase permitted equipment.
• Avoid fines, confiscation, or shutdowns by planning realistically and avoiding interference.
4. System Integration
Antennas & Accessories
An FM transmitter requires the right supporting equipment:

The Right Antenna: Dipole (local), Circular (mixed terrain/cars), or Multi-Bay (extended reach).
Audio Processing: Essential for a clear, stable, and competitive signal on the dial.
RDS Encoder: Displays station info (name/track) on car radios.
Professional Accessories: High-quality cables and filters guarantee interference-free operation.
5. Future Planning
Scalability & Growth
Choose equipment designed to grow with your audience. Aareff's modular engineering allows you to scale up simply and cost-effectively.

Start with a smaller unit (e.g., 20W) and upgrade later without completely replacing your core professional infrastructure.

6. Next Steps: Making Your Investment

Ready to take the next step? If you are a beginner, we recommend starting with our Complete FM Radio Station Packages which include the transmitter, antenna, and cable in one ready-to-air kit.

Engineering Leadership: Paul Hollings

Hi there. I'm Paul Hollings (LinkedIn profile), Head Engineer at Aareff Systems.

With over 35 years of broadcast experience, my career began in 1982 as a Plant Maintenance Engineer for the NHS before moving to the BBC, where I was awarded for automating transmitter test equipment in 1993.

Throughout the 1990s, I revolutionized the industry as Head of Design for Veronica Ltd, personally engineering the world-famous 1W PLL Exciter Kit (1998) and high-specification MOSFET amplifier blocks (2002) that increased global broadcast accessibility by over 50%.

Today, as an IEEE Full Member, I oversee all Aareff production to ensure every transmitter meets the highest FCC and EU ETSI standards for performance and long-term resilience.
